Bet Rachel Strauss is a school for students age 13-21, who have been diagnosed with mild to severe mental handicaps. The school has 40 students, who are split up into three sections. The school’s goal is to improve the quality of life of the students and help them integrate into their various communities through giving students the skills to live autonomous lives. Bnot sherut are an integral part of the school’s staff, guide specific classes, create programs and develop personal relationships with the children. The school believes in the potential of every student and therefore, individualizes the program to meet each student’s specific needs. Learning marketable skills is a very important part of the program. The students have the opportunity to learn agriculture, nature, photography, music, arts, computers, physical education, home economics and more.
